St. George Builder Brings ‘Home Alone’ Magic to Life

St. George is seeing something truly unique this winter. A local homebuilder has recreated the iconic McCallister family home from the classic Christmas movie Home Alone, turning childhood nostalgia into a real-life experience.

The massive 14,000-square-foot Georgian-style home carries a $7 million price tag and is already drawing attention across Southern Utah.

A Childhood Favorite Turned Reality

Nathan Shaffer, a partner at Strata Construction, wanted to create something memorable for the community. As a result, his team built the home on a one-acre lot just west of Crimson Cliffs High School. The house includes six bedrooms and eight and a half bathrooms.

Rather than chasing a trend, Shaffer leaned into something personal. He explained that the movie played a big role in his childhood, and this project allowed him to bring that joy to life.

At first glance, the exterior looks instantly familiar. In fact, the team even added a movie-inspired plumbing van with a “wanted Wet Bandit” sticker parked nearby, giving fans a fun surprise.

Designed With Movie Fans in Mind

To stay true to the film, architect Josh Warner studied the original Illinois home closely. Since the movie filmed its interior scenes on a soundstage, the team relied on online listings and detailed research to guide the design.

As a result, about 60 to 70 percent of the layout reflects the real McCallister home.

Throughout the house, visitors will spot familiar details like a front-door mail slot and attic space. However, the home also blends modern St. George living with luxury upgrades, including:

  • An indoor pickleball court
  • A swimming pool
  • A steam shower and sauna
  • A glass-walled veranda

Warner shared that the veranda stood out as a personal favorite. Because he had never designed a Georgian-style home before, the project gave him the chance to explore new architectural details.

A Community Experience, Not Just a House

Instead of treating the project like a typical Parade of Homes entry, Strata Construction plans to make it interactive. Leading up to February’s St. George Parade of Homes, the team will host community events that invite visitors to explore the house and search for movie references.

Meanwhile, the marketing has already started. The replica movie van has been cruising around town, and “Wanted” posters for the Wet Bandits have popped up across St. George.

Because the Parade of Homes usually attracts more than 40,000 visitors, this home is expected to be one of the most talked-about stops.

McCallister Manor Makes Its Debut

The team has named the home McCallister Manor, and construction is set to wrap up by late January. While Shaffer admits the theme narrows the buyer pool, he believes the attention to detail makes it worth it.

After all, anyone considering a $7 million home expects something unforgettable. With that in mind, the team focused on creating a space that feels both playful and high-end.
