Mother and Daughter Found Dead in Las Vegas Hotel in Suspected Murder-Suicide

A suspected Las Vegas hotel murder-suicide is under investigation after a Utah mother and her 11-year-old daughter were found dead inside a hotel room Sunday.

According to police, officers responded to a room at the Rio Hotel & Casino, where 38-year-old Tawnia McGeehan and her daughter, Addi Smith, were discovered deceased. Authorities say evidence at the scene indicates the mother allegedly shot her daughter before taking her own life. A note was also recovered.

Investigators believe the incident occurred late Saturday. Officials have not released additional details as the Las Vegas hotel murder-suicide investigation continues.

The mother and daughter had reportedly traveled from Utah to Las Vegas to attend a weekend cheer competition. When the child did not appear for scheduled events, her team, Utah Xtreme Cheer, began sharing posts on social media asking for assistance in locating them.

After authorities confirmed their deaths, the organization shared a public tribute expressing grief and describing Addi as deeply loved by teammates and the broader community.

Police have not indicated any ongoing threat to the public. The Clark County Coroner’s Office is expected to release official causes and manner of death pending completion of its review.
