St. George Firearm Accident: Washington City Teen Charged After Friend’s Death

A tragic accident in St. George has left one young resident dead and another facing serious criminal charges. On Dec. 5, Malachi Robles-Romo, 19, of Washington City, allegedly discharged a firearm in an apartment, striking a teenage friend and causing a fatal injury.



Emergency responders found the victim, a male juvenile, inside an apartment at 449 South, 1100 East, where life-saving measures were unfortunately unsuccessful. Two other juveniles at the scene reportedly removed the gun and hid it nearby.



Investigation Reveals Firearm Knowledge and Possible Stolen Weapons

Police reports indicate that Robles-Romo purchased the Glock from an undisclosed source and demonstrated knowledge of operating and disassembling the firearm. Witnesses suggested the gun may have been stolen, along with other firearms at the residence.

A search warrant executed by the St. George Police Department recovered the weapon and other evidence. Authorities also discovered a THC vape on Robles-Romo, who admitted using it before the incident.



Charges Filed and Current Custody

Authorities are holding Robles-Romo in Purgatory Correctional Facility and faces multiple charges:

  • Manslaughter
  • Felony discharge of a firearm causing serious injury
  • Possession of a firearm and controlled substances as a restricted person
  • Possession of a stolen firearm
  • Possession of a controlled substance

The department confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, but there are no other suspects, and the community is not at risk.
