So wait has Jelly Roll actually been pardoned?
The answer is YES! Country music artist Jelly Roll, born Jason DeFord, recently received a state pardon from Tennessee Governor Bill Lee for parts of his earlier criminal record.
Jelly Roll grew up in Nashville and had a difficult early life. It included convictions for robbery and drug-related offenses.
Over the years, he turned his life around through music, sobriety, and advocacy, openly sharing his journey through his songs, public speaking, and even testimony before Congress about addiction and recovery.
A Succesful Pardon.
The pardon came after a full review process and a unanimous recommendation from Tennessee’s parole board. While it does not erase his past, it formally forgives it. This helps remove barriers related to travel and charitable work.
Jelly Roll has built a successful music career rooted in honesty and redemption, earning major awards and widespread respect for using his platform to help others who are struggling.
Can you think of another celebrity or maybe even friend that you think should be pardoned? We think this is a pretty interesting situation!
This story is not local to St. George, but it is a great reminder that growth, accountability, and second chances are possible and that talent paired with hard work can completely change a life.
