St. George has two timely developments this week: a new hospital transport base designed to get emergency crews into the air faster, and a full Dixie Days schedule bringing local families downtown through Sunday, September 20.
Faster emergency response begins on the ground
Intermountain Health opened its new centralized Flight and Ambulance Services base at St. George Regional Hospital on September 9. The facility brings pilots, mechanics, clinical supplies and transport teams together beside the Emergency Department and helipad.
Intermountain says the move can reduce medical helicopter lift times and help crews reach patients roughly five to ten minutes sooner. In urgent care, that head start can matter across a service region where long distances are common.
Who the new base serves
The base supports 911 responses and transfers originating within approximately 150 miles of St. George. Specialized teams transport adults, children, newborns and patients with high risk pregnancies.
Centralizing the crews, equipment and maintenance support also gives caregivers a more direct path between a patient’s bedside and an aircraft or ambulance.
The local takeaway: This is more than a new building. It puts the people and equipment behind emergency transport in one coordinated location when every minute matters.
Dixie Days is filling downtown
The other major local story is happening in public spaces across St. George. Dixie Days continues through Sunday with history, family activities, food, carnival rides, a parade and the Dixie Round Up Rodeo.
