Washington City Commercial Development Update: WinCo, Healthcare, Downtown

Major commercial construction and municipal revitalization efforts are expanding rapidly across Washington City, driven by new hospitality, retail, healthcare, and public infrastructure projects along Buena Vista Boulevard, Main Street, and Telegraph Street.

Buena Vista Boulevard and Boilers Park Development Update

Significant activity is underway near Interstate 15 Exit 10 and the surrounding commercial hubs:

• Homewood Suites by Hilton: Located on the west side of Buena Vista Boulevard just north of Exit 10, construction is progressing on a new hotel anchored by planned surrounding retail space. Letters of intent have been submitted for adjacent retail lots, with ground breaking expected by the end of the year and final project completion anticipated in 2027.

• Cypress Credit Union: Construction on the financial facility remains on track for an official opening in September. The development includes signed leases for integrated retail and office space, with tenant details expected to be announced prior to opening.

• Boilers Park (West Side): Site work is progressing on multiple commercial pads, including property where a Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services (DABS) state liquor store transaction closed in recent weeks. Planning and design for the site are currently underway.

• WinCo Foods Development (East Side): Heavy earthwork has advanced significantly over recent months for the new grocery anchor and surrounding retail lots. The project is targeted to open sometime in 2027.

New Healthcare Facility and Red Desert Commercial Project

To address regional growth, new primary care medical services and commercial space are coming to central Washington:

• One Health Plaza: Situated north of the Boilers Park area, construction is nearing completion on Washington City’s first new healthcare practice site since 2015. Set to open by the end of the year, the center will house three physicians and three nurse practitioners providing family medicine, pediatrics, and specialized care.

• Red Desert Mixed-Use Site: Located near Main Street and Solente, phase one of the Red Desert project is scheduled to break ground within the next six months. The initial phase features four two-story structures encompassing 15,000 square feet of office and retail space, with future phases planned for private garage units and storage space.

Downtown Revitalization, Farmers Market, and Telegraph Street

Municipal initiatives and family services are also expanding within the historic downtown core and along Telegraph Street:

• Downtown Civic Renovations: City-led revitalization efforts have transformed the former Heritage Hall gymnasium into a public community center. The next phase will renovate the historic chapel located directly behind Heritage Hall into civic utility space. Long-term plans also target the Nisson grocery store site and the diagonal food truck lot for future retail integration.

• Washington Farmers Market: Hosted year-round at the downtown park every Saturday, the market features up to 80 local vendors alongside youth activities and photo opportunities. Current summer operational hours are 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, shifting to 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM during winter months.

• Telegraph Street Projects: The Southern Utah Head Start Preschool recently hosted an open house at its Telegraph Street facility ahead of its scheduled August 19 start date. The program provides early childhood education, health resources, and family support for low-income households and children with disabilities ages 3 to 5. Diagonally across the street, construction is also underway on an unannounced drive-thru restaurant facility.
